YouTube is testing AI “hosts” that will appear in radio stations and mixes inside the YouTube Music app as part of a new YouTube Labs program. According to YouTube’s blog post, the hosts are intended to “deepen your listening experience by sharing relevant stories, fan trivia, and fun commentary about your favorite music.” The experiment is being rolled out as an early prototype for a limited number of participants.
Eligibility to join YouTube Labs is limited — the blog says “a limited number of US-based participants can test early prototypes and experiments,” and YouTube points users to its /new page to check access. The Verge reporter who joined YouTube Labs noted they hadn’t yet been able to hear the hosts while testing YouTube Music on their phone.
The move echoes efforts across Google to expand conversational, audio-driven AI features (for example, NotebookLM’s audio capabilities) and fits within Google’s broader Labs initiative. YouTube also said it’s expanded some Premium features to more platforms — for instance, the AI-powered “jump ahead” feature is now fully available on YouTube for TV and game consoles.
