Vex is a new robot companion shown at CES that acts like a roaming pet cameraman: it autonomously follows your cat or dog around the house, films low-angle footage from the pet’s perspective, and “uses AI smarts to stitch together a video” from the day’s footage into moving narratives and shareable stories. The company behind it, FrontierX, says Vex can visually identify specific pets so it can follow the right animal.

Physically Vex is a small white sphere with stubby limbs, ears, and colorful accessories — compact enough to fit in one hand and almost certainly smaller than the pets it’s meant to film. FrontierX hasn’t yet published an example of the edited footage the robot promises, and the article notes that will be the real test of whether the feature is worthwhile.

Vex is paired with Aura, a larger spherical companion that has a circular screen “face.” Aura is positioned as a people-focused companion: it can follow you, read body language and facial expressions to gauge mood, and offer LLM-powered conversational features. Both bots remain in development; FrontierX currently has only a barebones Instagram presence and says it will open preorders within about six months, but it hasn’t disclosed pricing.
