25 Sep 2025- Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: a flagship mobile SoC emphasizing on‑device AI with a 3rd‑gen Oryon CPU, faster Hexagon NPU, improved GPU, camera AI and X85 modem.
Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a flagship mobile SoC that the company bills as a generational leap focused on on‑device AI. The chip uses a third‑generation Oryon CPU (two prime cores up to 4.6GHz plus six performance cores up to 3.62GHz) and Qualcomm claims up to 35% better CPU power efficiency and a 16% improvement in overall SoC efficiency. The updated Adreno GPU promises up to 23% better gaming performance while cutting GPU power draw by roughly 20%.
The Hexagon NPU is faster too (Qualcomm cites ~37% speed gains and power savings), and — together with the Snapdragon Sensing Hub — the company says the platform will enable more personalized, continuously learning on‑device AI. Camera and video get upgrades: the ISP adds support for the APV (Advanced Professional Video) codec and a “computational video pipeline” for AI frame‑by‑frame enhancements, plus context‑aware autofocus, exposure, and white balance. The 8 Elite Gen 5 pairs with Qualcomm’s X85 modem (promoted for “AI‑enhanced Wi‑Fi” and up to 50% lower gaming latency). Devices with the chip are expected soon from major Android makers.
