OpenAI has opened a formal App Directory for ChatGPT and released an SDK so developers can build interactive experiences that run inside the chatbot’s UI. The move builds on earlier ChatGPT “apps” (previously called “connectors”) that let the assistant access services like Google Drive, Dropbox, Spotify, and Zillow — and it signals OpenAI’s push to turn ChatGPT into a broader app platform. CEO Sam Altman has said the company plans to “build the obvious features that you would expect for a robust platform over time.”

OpenAI is also renaming its connector types as app categories: “apps with file search,” “apps with deep research,” and “apps with sync.” The support page notes apps may draw on a user’s Memory (if enabled), and OpenAI may use data from Free, Plus, Go, and Pro users to train models when those users have “improve the model for everyone” switched on.

Interactive apps already include Spotify (now available in the UK, Switzerland, and the EU), and OpenAI says it added Apple Music and DoorDash among new listings. The company hasn’t detailed how it will monetize the storefront, saying only it’s “exploring additional monetization options over time, including digital goods.”
