Microsoft has officially launched “Copilot Mode” in Edge, turning the browser’s Copilot assistant into a tab-centric chat portal that combines AI-generated answers, search results, and navigation in one window. With Copilot Mode enabled, each new tab opens a chat where you can ask questions, run searches, or enter URLs, and the assistant can draw context from all open tabs to summarize or compare information across them.

The rollout includes preview features like Copilot Actions — agentic capabilities that can perform tasks on your behalf (for example, unsubscribing from marketing emails or attempting reservations) — and Copilot Journeys, which organizes browsing history into topic-based paths to suggest follow-up searches. Microsoft warns Copilot Actions are “intended for research and evaluation purposes” and “can make mistakes.” The Verge’s testing found mixed results: Copilot successfully unsubscribed from a mailing list but claimed to delete or send emails it didn’t actually process, and it booked a Hard Rock Cafe reservation for the wrong month (saying Nov. 26 but selecting Oct. 26).

Copilot Mode is available for anyone to try; Journeys and Copilot Actions are in limited preview (US users can enable them). You can turn on Copilot Mode by downloading Edge and toggling the Copilot Mode switch on Microsoft’s site.
