Google appears to be suppressing its AI-generated “AI Overview” for queries about Donald Trump’s cognitive health. Searches like “does trump show signs of dementia” return a banner that says “An AI Overview is not available for this search,” and switching to Google’s AI Mode yields only a list of ten web links rather than a synthesized answer.

The Verge reports the behavior isn’t consistent across names: similar queries about Joe Biden show a summarized AI answer in AI Mode (saying it’s not possible to definitively state whether Biden has dementia based on public information), and searches about Barack Obama produced AI Overviews stating there’s no public evidence he has dementia. The Verge notes Google provided a statement that “AI Overviews and AI Mode won’t show a response to every query” and pointed to documentation explaining that AI Mode may choose to show links rather than generate a response.

The article suggests Google may be cautious because medical or sensitive claims are error-prone for AI summaries — and mentions the company recently agreed to a $24.5 million settlement related to Trump’s YouTube account. The Verge updated the story with Google’s response on September 30.
