Firefox is rolling out a “shake to summarize” feature for its iPhone browser that uses AI to generate a quick summary of the webpage you’re viewing. The feature begins this week and will use Apple’s on‑device Apple Intelligence model on iPhone 15 Pro (and newer) devices once iOS 26 is available.
On devices running older iOS versions, Mozilla will fall back to its own cloud‑based AI system to produce summaries and overlay them on top of the page. You can also request a summary without shaking the phone by tapping the “thunderbolt” icon in the address bar or opening the menu and selecting “Summarize page.”
Mozilla says the feature can be disabled if you’re worried about accidental triggers, and it will only run on pages with fewer than 5,000 words. Initially the capability is available in English and only in the US, though Mozilla plans to expand it internationally and bring the function to Android in the future. With this launch, Firefox becomes one of the first major third‑party apps to integrate Apple Intelligence. (Emma Roth / Sep 9, 2025)
