20 Dec 2025- OpenAI adds personalization toggles to ChatGPT—adjust warmth, enthusiasm, emoji, headers and lists—and enables inline text selection editing for emails within chats.
OpenAI is rolling out a personalization update that lets users adjust ChatGPT’s tone — specifically its warmth and enthusiasm — by choosing “more,” “less,” or leaving the default. The update also adds granular toggles for how often the assistant uses emoji, headers, and lists, and it works alongside the existing personality presets (for example: quirky, professional, friendly, cynical). To change these, open the ChatGPT app menu (top left), go to your profile → Personalization → Add Characteristics.
Separately, OpenAI changed how ChatGPT helps with email editing: you can now update and format text directly inside the chat. Instead of trying to describe which section you want changed in a new prompt, you can highlight chunks of text in the conversation and ask ChatGPT to edit just that selection. The company announced the changes via a tweet; The Verge’s writeup notes the update began rolling out on Friday.
