Anthropic is adding Claude Code directly into Slack: when a user tags Claude in a message or thread, the Slack app will scan the text to decide whether it’s a coding task and, if so, automatically route the request to Claude Code. The feature launches today in beta as a research preview and is built into the existing Claude Slack app, so current users don’t need to download anything new.

Claude will use context from the Slack thread and any code repositories you’ve authenticated in Claude Code to handle tasks such as investigating bug reports — or you can explicitly mark a message as a coding request. To use the flow you must have the web version of Claude Code set up with the repositories you want it to access.

The Slack expansion follows Anthropic’s recent rollout of Claude Opus 4.5; Anthropic says Opus 4.5 beats Google Gemini 3 on coding benchmarks, but independent tests flagged safety concerns — early checks showed Opus 4.5 declined about 78% of requests to generate malware or other malicious code.
