Pixel update brings AI summaries, scam detection

Google is rolling out a Pixel feature drop that adds AI-powered notification summaries — but it’s taking a cautious approach. The new summaries will initially apply only to chat conversations and only for longer threads, a design choice meant to give the system more context and avoid the “swings and misses” other implementations have produced. The feature is included in this month’s Pixel update for Pixel 9 series phones and newer (the Pixel 9A is excluded).
According to coverage of code spotted in an Android 16 beta, Google plans a December update that goes further: automatically sorting notifications and silencing lower-priority alerts. The company is also expanding its scam-detection tools. Pixel 6 and newer devices will now flag likely-scam notifications from some third-party chat apps (Telegram, Discord) beyond Google Messages; tapping a flagged notification shows a system warning. Scam detection for calls is expanding to Pixel 9 models (again excluding 9A) in the UK, Ireland, India, Australia, and Canada.
Other updates include an AI “remix” photo feature inside Google Messages (rolling out beyond Pixels but limited to English in a handful of countries) and prioritizing chat notifications from VIP contacts on Pixel 6 and newer models.
