Google is rolling out updates to Flow, its AI filmmaking tool, to make generated videos more realistic and easier to edit. The company announced expanded controls tied to the new Veo 3.1 model, which it says better translates submitted images into motion and lets users adjust shadows and lighting to improve believability.

Flow’s new features also add audio generation. “Ingredients to Video” creates a clip with sound from three reference images; “Frames to Video” bridges a start and end image with accompanying audio; and “Scene Extension” takes the final second of a clip and generates up to a minute of extra footage — also with audio. Google says Veo 3.1 is priced the same as Veo 3 and is available as a “paid preview” to developers via the Gemini API and in the Gemini app.

Google also says Flow will soon let users remove “anything” from a video, with the tool restructuring the background so it “looks as though the object was never there.” Taken together, the lighting, shadow, audio, and removal tools aim to make AI-generated videos harder to distinguish from real footage.
