13 Jan 2026- Framework raised desktop prices to offset surging LPDDR5x RAM costs—32GB Ryzen AI Max now $1,139; higher configs increased—part of an industry-wide memory shortage driven by AI demand.
Just weeks after raising the price of its RAM modules, Framework said it’s increasing the price of its desktop to reflect surging LPDDR5x costs from suppliers. The Framework Desktop with 32GB of RAM and an AMD Ryzen AI Max 385 chip now starts at $1,139 (up from $1,099). Framework said on X that it “held off on it for as long as we could” and is “only adjusting prices enough to cover the increases in cost.”
Higher configurations rose as well: the 64GB Ryzen AI Max Plus 395 configuration moved from $1,599 to $1,639, and the 128GB option jumped from $1,999 to $2,459. Framework had warned in December that module prices might need further adjustment. The company and others are responding to a global memory shortage driven in part by AI companies buying large volumes of high‑speed RAM; analysts predict the squeeze could persist into 2027.
The shortage has already prompted price or product changes across the industry — Raspberry Pi raised prices for single‑board computers, and Dell, HP, Xiaomi, Acer, and Asus have warned customers to expect hikes. Source: Source
